2022 Autumnal Equinox Art-a-Thon: Art Work is Dream Work

24 straight hours of art! Art-a-Thon highlights and supports the daily work of artists in many disciplines and forms including research, practice, experimentation, maintenance, and nourishment. Join us for a livestream (here!) and at both physical locations for 24 golden artmaking hours. It’s telethon-style! Free to watch and participate, but please donate to support the participating artists and PS1’s year-round artist-centered programs, spaces, and resources.

The Yarn Menagerie || Come Stay a While!

The Yarn Menagerie is Tamara-Jo Schaapherder, Maura O'Dea, Margarita Rasgado Lopez, Alana Scherer, Quinlan Stafford, and Logan Shoviak, in collaboration with various artists. They are collaborating to create a joyful space in the form of a circus-esque tent. Guests are welcome to contribute to the patchwork-style creation.

A memento mori community embroidery circle featuring locks of hair bound to a stretched historical piece, connecting generations of makers within the domestic sphere.

Art Dusters || A Friend From Another Dimension

In a race against the clock, the Art Dusters aim to create a large-scale fantastical creature that will awe and inspire. Attendees can participate by bringing newspapers to use for paper mache and help in the painting of the creature.

Nicholas Cladis || no coming, no going

Participants can “pull” a single sheet of handmade paper. When each sheet of paper is made and dried, it will then be placed within the gallery space as a progression that has been situated to seated eye level. Within the space, participants can sit on handmade paper cushions, contemplating the communal, collaborative work we have all made together. Read more about the project.

Equinox Meditation

A 24 hour meditation session, tag-teamed around the world. For many meditation is an important part of the artistic process. Each participant will do a brief hand over to the next meditator through a well wish/prayer out to the universe. The session will be documented with photographs and video of where they sat. The group will also share what they may have listened to, chanted, held, burned, sat on etc. Each participant will also record how they felt before and after their session/s in words or images or however they feel fit. This is a global project and will have up a scheduled time sessions. To participate sign up here.
