Esperanza Chairez
2024 DIY Publishing Artist-in-Residence
Esperanza is a writer, geographer and zine lover from Las Cruces, New Mexico. She is passionate about learning slow crafts, land-based practices, thinking with place, and experimental cartographies. She's been making zines since she was a teenager and sees them as awesome tools of expressive empowerment and reflection. She's excited to have the opportunity to work on her upcoming project "Like the Palm of My Hand" as Public Space One's DIY Publishing resident and to share her practice with others in Iowa City.
Esperanza’s residency is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts; the Iowa Arts Council, part of the Iowa Economic Development Authority; and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
