Like so many in Iowa City I’m obsessed with making and telling stories (I sadly live in Coralville but don’t tell anyone). Most of the stories I’ve made as an adult have been in audio, but I’m currently working on comic books and a video project, which is what I hope to work on during my time at PS1. My work is often tied up in politics, but right now it’s mainly about my family and what it was like for them to make a life for me. If we just talk about the places we lived in Southern California, we moved maybe 12 or 13 times in 18 years, sometimes it was to a nicer spot, sometimes not, but in all the cases they made it feel like magic. The project tries to understand what a home is, when you never really had one. It’s called “Maybe we were a mistake, but we weren’t misfortune.”
