As an accessible and broad art form, comics have incredible potential for education, storytelling, activism, and connection. In this workshop, participants will learn the basics of of comic creation such as writing, editing, layouts, flow, and clarity. Over the course of three sessions, everyone will create a one-to-three page short story comic through exercises designed to challenge participants to explore new ideas, use their critical eye, and embrace imperfection. No experience writing or drawing required, comics are for everyone and everyone is welcome!

Open to ages 14+.

*PS1 workshops are pay-what-you-can thanks to support from Hills Bank and individual donors. $80 is the true cost of the workshop, and we encourage participants to select the cost that they can afford, or pay a little extra to support future sliding-scale fees.

TEACHING ARTIST:

Kai Kiser is a writer, artist, and grant writer living in Iowa City with their partners, dogs, and far too many cats. They studied writing at the University of Iowa and have spent years as a professional and volunteer teaching art and music to young people.
