Fotoresist = Bryan Day and Chris Olson
Bryan Day is a sound artist, musical instrument inventor, and conceptual artist based in the east bay . Using scavenged electronics, repurposed mechanical components, and amplified materials, he re-imagines them into constructivist sound sculptures. Since the late-1990s, he has built over a hundred sound object devices, from amplified measuring tape, hacked radio transceivers to electromechanical installations using magnets, hard drives and pendulums. His recorded work ranges from noisy electroacoustic improvisation to drony minimalism and audio collage, which is showcased in his projects Euphotic, Collision Stories and Seeded Plain. Day has performed, taught workshops, and built sound installations across Europe, Asia and the Americas. During his days, he can be found designing, building, and repairing science museum exhibits at the Exploratorium in San Francisco.
Chris Olson is a musician living in Oakland, CA. He records electro-acoustic music under the name of BigCat. Some of his work can be found on the labels Warm Gospel Tapes or Wormhole World. He also plays with Berkeley’s Gamelan Sari Raras, and moonlights as the drummer for local indie band Sarah Coolidge.
David Hurlin is an Iowan percussionist/sound sculptor.
