Learn how to create printed designs on cellulose fabric and dye the fabric in different color immersion natural dye baths. Participants will learn about:
• preparing the fabric for the natural dyeing process
• the making of the mordant printing paste
• the process of creating printing blocks and printing with them
• removing the printing paste and then immersion natural dyeing
• how to take care of naturally dyed textiles.
Participants will take home multiple 18 inch square printed and natural dyed pieces of fabric.

TEACHING ARTISTS
Lilah Ward Shepherd is a multidisciplinary artist working with textiles, natural dyeing, printmaking, clay, painting and drawing. Her work has been exhibited across the United States and Canada. Her work explores color relationships, geometric shapes and patterning, relationships between forms and space while investigating human relationships, identity, ancestry, peace, comfort, and play.
Anita Jung received her BFA in painting and drawing from Arizona State University, and her MFA in graphic arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she too has exhibited and taught art throughout the US. She has studied textile printing in India, and spent 2022 on a Fulbright studying textiles and printmaking. She is currently a professor of art at the University of Iowa.
