We are looking for local (eastern IA-based) artists interested in displaying their work in downtown Iowa City. Utilizing a combination of pop-up shops, public sites, and vacant storefronts, we aim to transform empty windows into frames (and platforms) for local artist’s work. Artists will be promoted in a partnership between Public Space One and the Iowa City Downtown District. Each accepted artist will receive up to a month to display their work, promotion through ICDD & PS1, and a small stipend.
This is a pilot program for launch in Spring 2021, potentially extendable.
Each space will have its own character (and perhaps, quirks) but come with a high level of visibility. In general, we are looking for artists who are interested in “in situ” installation and a direct relationship to the public and public space with their work. The amount of space (and access to each space) will differ depending on the locations (and the amount of locations are subject to change). Artists with a specific project or idea and want for displaying work in the public realm are encouraged to apply.
This is a rolling call for artists to be considered for curation. Artists will be contacted as proposals are reviewed (once a month) and spaces become available, possibly as soon as March 1, 2021.
