Creating Watercolors with Plant Pigments

From start to finish you will learn how to create natural watercolors from plants. We will create dye baths from plant matter and learn the process of extracting pigment from the plant dye baths. How to process the plant dye lake pigment and create watercolor binder. Students will leave the class with the plant pigment watercolors made & supply kits.

Lilah Ward Shepherd is a multidisciplinary artist working with textiles, natural dyeing, printmaking, clay, painting and drawing. She received her MFA from the university of Iowa in printmaking and MA in ceramics. Her work explores color relationships, geometric shapes and patterning, relationships between forms and space while investigating human relationships, identity, ancestry, peace, comfort, and play.
