Easy Kitchen Lithography
Easy Kitchen Lithography
with Sally Chai
Sat. Nov. 2 & Sun. Nov. 3, 12-4p
at the IC Press Co-op (225 N. Gilbert)
pay-what-you-can: $50-175
Traditional lithography is a complicated method of printing on a heavy press in which the flat surface of a stone or metal plate is specially treated with strong chemicals so that oil-based ink sticks to some parts of the plate and not others. Kitchen lithography offers a more accessible approach where everyday materials like aluminum foil and non-toxic liquids are used to create a lithographic image that can be easily printed by hand. In this introductory workshop, participants will learn how to:
-make an aluminum foil plate
-use oil-based crayon to draw on the plate
-chemically process the plate using non-toxic liquids like Coca-Cola
-ink and print their lithographs by hand
Participants will take home their own small edition of lithographic prints. Previous experience making prints may be helpful, but is not required.
Open to ages 18+.
Registration deadline: Oct. 26
*PS1 workshops are pay-what-you-can thanks to support from Hills Bank and individual donors. $153 is the true cost of the workshop, and we encourage participants to select the cost that they can afford, or pay a little extra to support future sliding-scale fees.
